Ballistic Lover (3 f ex She’s A Sweetheart by Show A Heart) landed the Denise’s Joy Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Rosehill yesterday to earn Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) his 21st individual stakes winner. The Joe Pride-trained filly was having her second start in stakes company, after running unplaced in the Brian Crowley Stakes (Listed, 1200m) in the spring, and eased to a two-anda-half-length win, despite her unfancied odds of $18.

Majestic Shot (Shooting To Win) finished second, with Nags To Riches (Written Tycoon) a head further back in third. An $80,000 purchase from the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Ballistic Lover is the only foal to race out of She’s A Sweetheart (Show A Heart), who has a yearling filly by Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice). Smart Missile, the sire of 2018 Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Maid Of Heaven, is standing at Twin Hills Stud for $16,500 (inc. GST) in 2021.
